Why It Matters
Prevention Is the Most Powerful Medicine
In Kilifi, chronic conditions like hypertension and diabetes often go undiagnosed for years because no one has ever had the chance to be screened. By the time symptoms become impossible to ignore, the condition has often caused damage that could have been prevented with early detection.
One on One. Village by Village.
Identify hypertension, diabetes, and other chronic conditions early, while they are still manageable
Reduce preventable hospitalizations and emergency complications across Kilifi
Build a culture of routine check-ups rather than care sought only in crisis
Equip every patient with the knowledge to manage their own health day to day
Conditions We Focus On
What We Screen & Manage
Our preventive medicine program covers three categories — chronic non-communicable conditions, diseases common in children across Africa and Kenya, and contagious illnesses that spread among adults in the community.
CHRONIC & NON-COMMUNICABLE CONDITIONS
Hypertension
Routine blood pressure screening and ongoing management to prevent stroke and heart disease.
Diabetes
Blood glucose screening, education, and chronic management support for Type 1 and Type 2 diabetes.
Cardiovascular Disease
Risk assessment and counseling to identify and manage heart disease before a crisis occurs.
Cancer Risk
Early counseling and referral for breast, cervical, prostate, and other cancer risk factors.
Malnutrition & Anaemia
Screening for iron deficiency anaemia and malnutrition, which weaken immunity and worsen all other conditions.
Nutrition & Wellness
Practical, culturally relevant guidance for healthier eating and lifestyle within real community means.
Diseases Common in Children — Kenya & Africa
These are the leading causes of illness and death in children under five across sub-Saharan Africa. The primary causes of death in children under five include pneumonia, malaria, preterm birth complications, diarrhoea, and birth asphyxia, all of which are largely preventable or treatable.
Malaria
The leading infectious killer of children in Kenya. We screen for fever, provide rapid diagnosis, and educate families on bed net use and prevention.
Diarrhoea & Dehydration
The second leading cause of death in children under five. Linked directly to unsafe water and sanitation in Kilifi.
Measles
Highly contagious and dangerous for unvaccinated children. Screening and vaccination are our first line of defense.
Malnutrition
Approximately one third of all childhood deaths in Africa are linked to malnutrition, which weakens immunity and worsens every other illness.
Anaemia in Children
Often caused by malaria or iron deficiency. Affects growth, brain development, and the ability to fight infection.
Schistosomiasis & Worm Infections
Soil-transmitted parasites that cause chronic pain, anaemia, and stunted growth. Especially prevalent in rural Kilifi.
Contagious Conditions in Adults
These infectious conditions spread between adults in the community and require active screening, education, and management to prevent wider transmission.
Tuberculosis (TB)
Airborne and contagious. We screen for persistent cough and refer for diagnosis and treatment, especially in those also living with HIV.
HIV / AIDS
Confidential testing, counseling, and connection to antiretroviral therapy and ongoing chronic care management.
Malaria in Adults
While most severe in children, malaria affects adults too, particularly pregnant women where it poses serious risks to mother and baby.
Typhoid Fever
Spread through contaminated water and food. Screening, education on safe water, and treatment reduce spread in crowded communities.
Cholera & Waterborne Illness
Linked directly to unsafe sanitation. Community education, oral rehydration treatment, and referral are our key responses.
Sexually Transmitted Infections
Confidential screening and treatment, integrated with HIV/AIDS care and sexual health education.
Hepatitis B
Contagious and often silent until liver damage is advanced. Vaccination and screening are our primary tools.
Schistosomiasis in Adults
Common in rural Kilifi adults through contact with infected water, causing chronic abdominal pain, anaemia, and organ damage if untreated.
