The Need
A Community Carrying Untreated Pain
Kilifi has virtually no functioning mental health infrastructure. Survivors of trauma, women living with depression, and people coping with PTSD have almost nowhere confidential or qualified to turn. Our mental health program is led by a Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner and brings trauma-informed care directly into the community.
Rape & Sexual Trauma
Confidential, trauma-informed counseling for survivors, with referral to medical and legal resources.
Depression
Screening, counseling, and ongoing care for women and men living with depression.
PTSD
Specialized trauma care for survivors of violence, loss, and crisis.
Our Goals for This Pillar
Provide confidential mental health counseling to survivors of rape, domestic violence, and trauma
Reduce stigma around mental illness through community education and open conversation
Screen for and treat depression and PTSD with clinical, evidence-based care
Train community health workers to recognize mental health warning signs early
Our Services
Education, Awareness & Treatment
Mental Health Education
Community sessions that explain what depression, trauma, and PTSD are so families can recognize and support a loved one.
Stigma Reduction
Open conversations that challenge silence and shame so seeking help becomes a sign of strength.
Confidential Counseling
One-on-one sessions with a trained mental health professional, private and judgment-free.
Trauma-Informed Care for Survivors
Specialized support for survivors of rape and gender-based violence, centered on safety and survivor choice.
Led by a Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner
Our mental health program is overseen by Grace G. Kamau, PMHNP, bringing the same clinical standard used in advanced psychiatric care directly into the Kilifi community.
